How can it help me?
Work at the level of the craniosacral system radiates out to all the other systems in the body, making CranioSacral Therapy a truly holistic therapy. It deeply calms the nervous system, allowing the body to settle into a more relaxed state in which all the body systems can work more effectively. It also helps to clear restrictions which may be inhibiting your body from functioning at its most efficient.
This therapy can bring you into deep connection with your body, so that you become aware of the underlying factors causing the problem and not just the presenting symptoms. This can empower you to make changes in your life which will support your healing process.
What does it cost and how long are the sessions?
The cost is £60 per session, payable by BACS in advance or by cash or cheque at the end of the session. The session lasts 1 hr, including our discussions at the beginning and end.
How many sessions will I need?
The short answer is: it depends! You may not notice much after your first treatment, as the effects tend to be cumulative. In general, the more sessions you have, the more changes you will notice over time. Chronic, deep-seated issues need to be tackled particularly gradually and sensitively in order to give the body time to process each stage of the treatment and we would therefore definitely expect a series of regular sessions to be needed in these cases.
If you have had regular therapy before and are coming back for a “top-up”, sometimes just one session might be enough.
What happens during a treatment?
CranioSacral Therapy is performed clothed on a massage table. It is a good idea to wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.
Firstly, I will discuss with you why you have come and what you need from the session, take your case history, and answer any questions you may have. Then we will move on to the treatment on the therapy couch. CranioSacral Therapy is very different from massage: the touch is light in order to connect with and not disrupt the natural movements and patterns of your body tissues. It can be deeply relaxing and you may drop down into a semi-sleep state.
Clients sometimes expect the focus of this therapy to be mainly on the head, but in fact it is a whole-body treatment. If required, I can also work inside the mouth to ease problems caused by, for example, facial and dental trauma.
I didn’t feel much, why not?
The work we do is subtle and light, working with micro-movements of the body tissues. This is because we closely track the body’s natural physiological movements, making gentle adjustments where necessary to enhance functioning. During treatment, subtle changes occur which can have profound effects, but not everyone is aware of anything changing while they are on the table.
A note about effects after treatment
During treatment, the body finds new, ultimately more efficient ways to function. As restrictions are cleared, everything begins to flow and work slightly differently, which means your body now has to reorganise its habitual patterns.
This can lead to temporary discomfort in places where you did not feel it before. It is very common to feel very tired after a treatment, as your body is likely to want sleep in order to continue the healing work begun during the session. Therefore, it is a good idea to leave yourself plenty of time to rest and sleep after a treatment, and to drink plenty of water. Immediately afterwards, give yourself a break of at least 15 mins. before getting on with your day – a walk in the fresh air is recommended.
If you have any worries or concerns about your treatment, please contact me to discuss these and/or arrange another session.
